SPRING Clay Block Printing, Tuesday Mornings

from $220.00

Tuesdays 10am-1pm

4 Week Sessions - $220

4 weeks April 22, 29, May 6, 13

This is for beginner to intermediate students. No prior experience necessary.

Learn alternative methods of design and pattern to add to your pottery using a soft block, a linoleum block and carving directly into clay to make a bisque mold to created textural elements or a specific image. These molds can be impressed into slabs to create one of a kind vases, mugs, plates, tiles and more.

Block printing is similar to sgraffito and other printmaking techniques with a hard substrate typically used in paper printmaking and textiles to create multiple patterns and images.

You will learn tried and true techniques to develop good, strong design multiples in your own style that can be used over and over.

Ideas might be based on a Portrait (Face), Animal, Floral, Abstract or Lettering design. To make this process worthy of your time, planning is key.

Once our final images are determined, we will transfer our design onto blocksand cut out the design with linocut tools, which will then be used to create a low relief sculptural project or tiles in clay. Your final piece will be finished with your choice of colored slips, underglaze and transparent or clear glaze over all.

Instructor: Laura Elm

**Open Studio is on Mondays from 4-6pm and is time for students to practice what they learning in class and have extra studio time to finish any projects.
