Jenna Kelmser
Jenna learned the art of ceramics at Humboldt State University in Northern California.
Majoring in Environmental Science and Geography, she utilized ceramics to center herself in all
the chaos. Jenna has been a researcher her whole life. From scientific processes to studying the
social interactions between 5 th graders, she’s always enjoyed figuring out the best way to make
something happen. During her time at Humboldt State University (HSU), Jenna spent every
semester in a ceramics class eventually making her way through every class offered. She
focused mainly on throwing, but also sculpted many creations and feels very confident in
forming unruly shapes out of any type of clay. She also focused on the chemistry of glazing,
creating new glaze colors from her science background as well as utilizing HSU’s many different
types of gas kilns to experiment with atmospheric glazes. HSU also blossomed Jenna’s interest
in ecosystems and plants, bringing forward experiences from her childhood to allow her to run
the Campus Center for Appropriate Technologies organic garden as well as tech a college level
organic gardening class. Since then, she has made it a priority to always have one foot in the
soil no matter where her career takes her.
